James Bowen
ReMap Research is a consultancy run by James Bowen – an internationally recognised energy and climate expert based in Perth, Western Australia.
He specialises in researching and analysing clean energy and climate developments in Asia and the broader Indo-Pacific region, including sectors such as critical minerals, hydrogen, green iron and steel, and renewable energy technologies.
James is an energy transition advisor at Melbourne-based political risk firm Dragoman Global. He previously held permanent and visiting positions at think tanks and academic institutions on several continents: the Perth USAsia Centre at the University of Western Australia, the Australian War College in Canberra, the Mercator Institute for China Studies in Berlin and the International Peace Institute in New York City.
James has authored numerous influential policy reports and commentary for these employers and additional institutions including the Korea Economic Institute of America, the German Marshall Fund for the United States, Australian Strategic Policy Institute, and Asia Society Policy Institute.
He has appeared in countless in-person and virtual policy dialogues hosted by institutions in countries including Australia, the United States, Japan, Korea, and India.
He has been an expert consultant for International Renewable Energy Agency publications on hydrogen and critical minerals, appeared before parliamentary inquiries, and briefed numerous government departments and senior officials, including ambassadors and members of parliament.
